Al sinds 1840 waren er diverse - lange tijd tevergeefse - pogingen om met toestemming van de overheid een casino te openen in Mondorf-les-bains. Maar het duurde tot 1977 voor het - nogal behoudende - Luxemburgse parlement een wet goedkeurde die kansspelen - uiteraard onder strenge voorwaarden - in Luxemburg mogelijk maakte.
Onmiddellijk werd er een bedrijf opgericht met de naam "Casino de jeux du Luxembourg Mondorf-les-bains". In 1982 werd de eerste steen gelegd en op 16 april 1983 werd het casino dan eindelijk feestelijk geopend.
Nog steeds is dit het enige casino in Luxemburg. Het wordt druk bezocht, mede vanwege het prima restaurant en de veelvuldige optredens van beroemde artiesten.
In 2011 werd het casino uitgebreid met een hal voor conferenties, tentoonstellingen en beurzen.
Casino 2000
Since 1840 there have been attempts - for a long time in vain - to open an authorized casino in Mondorf-les-bains. But it took the - rather conservative - Luxembourgish Parliament till 1977 to apporve a bill that allowed gambling in Luxembourg - under strict conditions, of course. In that same year a company was established called "Casino de jeux du Luxembourg Monfort-les-bains". In 1982 the corner stone of the building was laid and on April 16, 1983, the casino finally was opened.
It still is the only casino in Luxembourg. It is a very popular place, partly thanks to the great restaurant and the frequent shows of well-known artists.
In 2011 an additional hall was built to accomodate conferences, exhibitions and fairs.
