St. Remigius-kerk in Koerich

De toren van de St. Remigius-kerk in Koerich werd gebouwd in 1727. De kerk zelf dateert van 1747 en was de eerste barokkerk in Luxemburg.

In 1767 gaf de toenmalige pastoor, Jean-Pierre Ningels, opdracht voor een verbouwing van het interieur. Het werk werd uitgevoerd door beeldhouwer André Doyer uit Diekirch en schrijnwerker Frédéric Biver uit Koerich. Zij vervaardigden vijf altaars en tientallen beelden. De muurschilderingen werden uitgevoerd onder supervisie van schilder Joseph Müller uit Bohemen. Al met al nam het verfraaien van het interieur zo'n tien jaar in beslag. Maar het resultaat is overweldigend.

Sinds de 18e eeuw geldt de kerk als "pulcherrina totius patriae ecclesia": de mooiste kerk van het land.
In 1991 werd de kerk gerestaureerd. Sinds 1968 staat hij op de nationale monumentenlijst.

 

St. Remigius Church in Koerich
The tower of the St. Remigius Church in Koerich was built in 1727. The church itself dates bach to 1747 and was the first Luxembourgisch church in the baroque style.

In 1767 priest Jean-Pierre Ningels signed a contract for the restoration of the interior. The work was done by sculptur André Doyer from Diekirch and woodcarver Frédéric Biver from Koerich. They created five altars and numerous statues. The murials were made under the supervision of painter Joseph Müller from Bohemian. The alterations of the interior took about ten years. But the result is stunning.

Since the 18th century, the church is called "pulcherrina totius patriae ecclesia": the most beautiful church in the country.
The church was restored in 1991 and was listed as a national monument in 1968.
