Cactus is de grootste Luxemburgse supermarktketen, opgericht door Paul Leesch in 1967. Het is een van de grootste particuliere werkgevers van het land; er werken ongeveer 4000 mensen.
In 1905 begon Joseph Leesch,de grootvader van Paul, een groothandel in levensmiddelen in Hollerich. In 1930 nam hij daarnaast een koffiebranderij in bedrijf.
In 1960 werd de eerste zelfbedieningswinkel geopend in Luxemburg-stad. Die werd in 1967 gevolgd door een supermarkt - naar Amerikaans model - in Bereldange. In 1974 werd ook een vestiging geopend in winkelcentrum La Belle Étoile in Bertrange.
De naam "Cactus" is ontleend aan het lied "Les Cactus" van Jacques Dutronc. De naam is gekozen, omdat hij in alle talen die in Luxemburg gebruikt worden, makkelijk uit te spreken is.
Natuurlijk heeft de supermarktketen tijdens de Europese en wereldkampioenschappen voetbal bijzondere acties. Vier jaar geleden kreeg je miniatuur-voetbalspelertjes uit het dierenrijk bij de boodschappen.

Of course the supermarket chain has special actions during the European and World Soccer Championships. For years ago, you could get tiny soccerplayers from the animal world with your groceries.
