Begin 1864 werd de "Allgemeine Luxemburger Musikverein" opgericht - die later de naam "Union Grand-Duc Adolphe" kreeg. De eerste directeur was Jean-Antoine Zinnen, die bevriend was met dichter Michel Lentz. Michel Lentz schreef de tekst van "Ons Heemecht", waarvoor Zinnen de muziek maakte. Dat werd in 1972 het volkslied van Luxemburg.
"Ons Heemecht" werd voor het eerst uitgevoerd op de eerste feestavond die de nieuwe muziekvereniging organiseerde. Dat was 5 juni 1864 in Ettelbruck - vandaag precies 150 jaar geleden.
Dit jaar wordt jubileum uitbundig gevierd. Onder meer een uitvoering het volkslied op dezelfde plek en dezelfde datum als die eerste keer. 1300 scholieren, gekleed in de nationale kleuren van Luxemburg (rood-wit-lichtblauw), zongen vanochtend om tien uur op de Place Marie-Thérèse in Ettelbruck het volkslied.

This year there are several festivites to celebrate this anniversary. One of them was a performance of the hymn at the same spot and on the same date as that first time. So this morning at ten, at the Place Marie-Thérèse in Ettelbruck, 1300 schoolchildren were singing the national hymn.
