Al Buerg Aansenbuerg

Het bescheiden plaatsje Ansembourg - ongeveer 50 inwoners - telt maar liefst twee kastelen. Het "nieuwe kasteel", dat halverwege de 17e eeuw werd gebouwd, is bij Luxemburgers en toeristen redelijk bekend, maar de "Al Buerg" (Oude burcht) kennen maar weinig mensen. Wat (groten)deels te wijten is aan het feit dat hij in privé-bezit is en niet bezocht kan worden.

De burcht werd al in 1135 schriftelijk vermeld en is dus écht oud. Wel is hij sinds de 14e eeuw ettelijke keren verbouwd en gerenoveerd, maar hij is nog steeds grotendeels in oorspronkelijke staat.

De burcht is eigendom van graaf Gaston-Gaëtan de Marchant et d'Ansenbourg, die er ook daadwerkelijk woont. Wel heeft hij in 2008 de aanwezige bibliotheek en archieven uit de burcht aan de Luxemburgse staat verkocht (voor € 3 miljoen). Het belangrijkste stuk daaruit was de "Codex Mariendalensis", een middeleeuws manuscript over het leven van Yolanda van Vianden.

 

Al Buerg Aansenbuerg
The modest village of Ansembourg - about 50 inhabitants - has the luxury of having two castles. The "new castle", which was built in the middel of the 17th century, is reasonably well known by Luxembourgers and tourist, but few people know the "Al Buerg" (Old Castle). Which is probably mostly due to the fact that is private property and not open to visitors.

The castle is first mentioned in 1135, so it is really old. It has been renovated and repaired a few times, but it is more or less still in its original state.

The castle is owned by Count Gaston-Gaëtan de Marchant et d'Ansembourg, who actually lives in it. But in 2008 he did sell the library and archives from the castle to the Luxembourg government (for the amount of 3 million euros). The most important work was the "Codex Mariendalensis", a medieval manuscript about the life of Yolanda of Vianden.
