In vroeger eeuwen waren er in Luxemburg twee typen boerderijen, die in vrijwel het hele land het dorpsgezicht bepaalden.
Het eerste type was het zogenaamde "Quereinhaus". Een langgerekt rechthoekig gebouw, met woonhuis, stal en schuur onder één dak. Daarvan bestonden twee soorten. In het zuiden lagen stal en schuur naast elkaar, met daarnaast het - vaak iets hogere - woonhuis.
In het noorden bouwde men vooral "Hochscheunenhaüser". Daarbij lag de schuur boven de stal, en leidde een houten of stenen "oprijlaan" naar de schuurdeur.
Nog steeds zijn veel van dergelijke woonboerderijen te vinden in de oude dorpskernen, zoals dit Hochscheunenhaus in Enscherange.
In earlier ages there were two kind of farmhouses in Luxemburg, which dominated the villages in almost the entire country.
The first type was the so-called "Quereinhaus". A long, rectangular builind with house, stable and barn under one roof. There were two types of those. In the south stable and barn were next to each other, besides the living space - which usually was a bit taller.
In the north you would mostly see "Hochscheunenhäuser". In this type, the barn was placed above the stable, with a wooden or stone ramp leading to the barn door.
There are still a lot of those houses in the old village centres, like this Hochscheunenhaus in Enscherange.
