Op 25 maart 1872 richtten Anna Bové en Louise Niederprüm, samen met de geestelijke Nicola Wies, de "Congregatie van de heilige Zitha" op.
Patroonheilige was St. Zitha, die in de 13e eeuw 48 jaar lang als dienstmeisje bij dezelfde familie werkte en in 1278 stierf. In 1696 werd ze heilig verklaard.
Het begeleiden en helpen van dienstmeisjes was dan ook de belangrijkste taak van de Zitha-zusters. Ze traden op als "bemiddelingsbureau" tussen dienstmeisjes en families die huishoudelijke hulp zochten, en zorgden zo nodig ook voor opvang en onderdak.
Aanvankelijk waren de zusters gevestigd in het "Haus Mayer-Ensch" in Luxemburg-stad, op de hoek van de Rue Philippe II en de Rue de Louvigny. Later verhuisden ze naar de Rue Ste. Zitha. In 1921 vestigden ze daar ook een ziekenhuis. Ook nu nog is de Zitha-kliniek een van de bekendste ziekenhuizen van Luxemburg.
On March 25, 1872 Anna Bové and Louise Niederprüm, with the support of clergyman Nicola Wies, founded the "Congregation of the Holy Zitha".
Patron saint was St. Zitha, who, in the 13th century, worked as a servant with one family for 48 years and died in 1728. She was canonized in 1696.
The core business of the Zitha-sisters was counseling and supporting female servats. They were a kind of employment agency for servants and families looking for maids, and they also took care of accomodation and help, when needed.
Originally the sisters lived in the "Haus Mayer-Ensch", at the corner of the Rue St. Philippe II and the Rue de Louvigny in Luxembourg-city. They later moved to the Rue Ste. Zitha. In 1921 they also opened a hospital there. Nowadays the Zitha-clinic still is one of the best known hospitals in Luxembourg.
