Het huis "Ënnert de Steiler" (onder de pilaren) werd gebouwd aan het eind van de 17e eeuw, in de Franse periode. Waarschijnlijk gebruikten de Fransen het als wachtpost. Sinds 1842 is het fraaie huis met zijn flamboyante gothische gevel de oudste pub in Luxemburg-stad.
Volgens de overlevering is in het jaar 1443 een van de toenmalige bestuurders van Luxemburg-stad, Jean Schalop, op deze plek de heldendood gestorgen, toen de Bourgondiërs de stad wilden veroveren. Gewapend met een houten stok posteerde hij zich op de markt, waar hij werd doodgeslagen.
The house "Ënnert de Steiler" (under the ..) was built at the end of the 17th century, in the French period. Originally it probably served as the town hall.Since 1842, the beautiful house with its flamboyant gothich appearance is known as "the Steiler", the oldest pub in Luxembourg-city.
According to tradition, Jean Schalop, one of the former council members of Luxembourg-city, died as a hero at this spot, when the Burgundian tried to take in the city. Armed with a wooden stake, he posted on the market, where he was beaten to death.
