Sint Donatus van Munstereifel is niet alleen de beschermheilige tegen onweer, bliksem en brand, maar ook de patroon van talrijke schuttersverenigingen. Aan het beeld van St. Donatus in de kerk van Vichten is een van de vele Luxemburgse sagen verbonden.
Een man uit Vichten ging eens op zondag tijdens de hoogmis jagen. Hij zag een haas en legde aan. Maar de haas ging op zijn achterpoten staan en riep "Niet schieten!"
De jager verbleekte, liet zijn geweer zakken en ging geschrokken terug naar huis.
Vanaf dat moment ging hij nooit meer op jacht. Hij plaatste een beeld van St. Donatus in de kerk en beloofde voortaan de zondagsrust te respecteren.
Het beeld staat nog altijd in de kerk.
St. Donatus of Munstereifel is not only the patron saint against thunder, lightning and fire, but also the godfather of numerous hunting association. There is a legend - one of the many existing in Luxembourg - about the statue of St. Donatus in the church of Vichten.
A man from Vichten once went hunting on a sunday during the high mass. He saw a hare and shouldered his rifle. But the hare rose on its hind legs and shouted "Please don't shoot!"
The hunter's face paled, he lowered his gun and returned home in a state of shock.
From that moment on he never went hunting again. He put a statue of St. Donatus in the church and promised to respect the Sunday Sabbath for the rest of his life.
The statue still is in the church.
