Mutter Franziska

Dit fraai gelegen verzorgingstehuis was vroeger een klooster  van de St. Elisabethzusters.
Daar woonde in het begin van de 19e eeuw Anne Elise Henriette Désirée Dufaing d'Aigremont. Een hele mond vol - gelukkig is ze beter bekend als Mutter Franziska.
Ze werd in 1804 geboren in Izel (België) en kwam als kind naar Luxemburg. Na het overlijden van haar ouders, werd ze opgenomen in dit klooster in Luxemburg-Grund. Als jong volwassene verhuisde ze met twee medebewoonsters naar het centrum van de stad, waar ze op 30 maart 1850 het habijt krijgen. Vanaf dat moment noemen de nonnen zich de "Barmhartige Zusters van de Heilige Franziskus" en krijgt Anne de naam "Mutter Franziska". De orde groeide snel en moet regelmatig verhuizen.
Mutter Franziska sterft in 1880 op 76-jarige leeftijd. De orde heeft dan 63 leden en locaties in Luxemburg-stad, Henn-Capelle, Itzig en Grevenmacher.

This beautiful located nursing home used to be a nunnery of the St. Elisabeth Sisters.
Here lived Anne Elise Henriette Désirée Dufaing D'Aigremont in the beginning of the 19th century. That's an impressive name - but she is better known as Mutter Franziska.
She was born in 1804 in Izel (Belgium) and moved to Luxembourg at a young age. After the death of her parents, she moved to this monastry in Luxemburg-Grund. As a young adult, she and to other orphans rented a hous in the city centre, where they were sanctified. From that moment on, the nuns call themselves the "Merciful Sisters of Saint Franciscus" and Anne is baptised "Mutter Franziska". The order grew rapidly and had to move several times.
Mutter Franziska died in 1880, at the age of 76. At that time the order has 63 members and locations in Luxembourg-city, Henn-Capelle, Itzig and Grevenmacher.
