Het kasteel in Colpach-bas dateert uit de middeleeuwen. Het werd in 1303 voor het eerst genoemd in een document.
Van 1628 tot 1817 was het eigendom van de familie Van Pforzheim, die er ook woonde. In de loop van de 18e eeuw werd het riante huis uitgebreid en gerenoveerd.
In de 19e eeuw kwam het in handen van de baronnen van Marches, die elders woonden en van het kasteel een boerenbedrijf maakten. Rond 1870 werd een groot park rond het kasteel aangelegd.
In 1917 werd het kasteel gekocht door Émile en Aline Mayrisch. Zij gingen er wonen en ontvingen er veel gasten uit de kunstenaarswereld, vooral veel schrijvers en dichters.
Na haar dood schonk Aline Mayrisch het kasteel aan het Luxemburgse Rode Kruis, die er een herstellingsoord/sanatorium inrichtten dat nog steeds dienst doet.
Zowel Aline als haar man Émile liggen in het park van het kasteel begraven.
The castle in Colpach-bas was built in the middle ages and was first mentioned in a document in 1303.
From 1628 until 1817 the castle was owned by the Von Pforzheim family, who were actually living there. In the 18th century the luxurious mansion was extended and renovated.
In the 19th century, it became the property of the Barons of Marches, who were living elsewhere and turned the castle into a farm. About 1870 a large park was constructed around the buildings.
In 1917 the castle was bought by Émile and Aline Mayrisch. They settled down there and welcomed a great number of artist, especially many writers and poets.
When she died, Aline Mayrisch donated the castle to the Luxembourgish Red Cross. They established a convalescent home/sanatorium in it, which is still there.
Both Aline and her husband Émile are buried in the park of the castle.
