De meeste toeristen die vanaf het station van Luxemburg-stad naar de bezienswaardigheden in het oude centrum wandelen, passeren zonder het te weten een van de vele onbekendere schatten van de hoofdstad. Vlak naast het viaduct over de Pétrusse-vallei ligt een verscholen kerkje, uitgehouwen in de rotsachtige helling. Waarschijnlijk dateert de Chapelle St. Quirin uit de Romeinse periode, maar zeker is dat hij in de 11e eeuw al als kerk werd gebruikt. De merkwaardige plek van de kapel hangt samen met een natuurlijke waterbron die hier in een ver verleden werd ontdekt en waaraan een geneeskrachtige werking werd toegeschreven. De kapel is gewijd aan St. Quirinus, een van de beschermheiligen van de stad Luxemburg.
De kapel is in de 19e eeuw gerestaureerd, waarbij onder meer de toren werd toegevoegd.
Most tourist who walk from the railway station in Luxembourg-city to the points of interest in the old city centre, unknowingly pass one of the many hidden treasures of the capital. Next to the viaduct over the Pétrusse-valley there is an inconspicuous little church, cleft from the rocks of the slope. The St. Quirin chapel is believed to date back to the Roman period, but it is certain that is was already used as a church in the 11th century. The curious location of the chapel is related to a natural spring nearby, which was believed to have healing capacities. The chapel is dedicated to St. Quirin, one of the patrons of Luxembourg-city.
The tower was added during a restoration in the 19th century.
